Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser on Friday regarding crime concerns in the nation’s capital.

"It was unsafe," Trump told reporters. "It was horrible and Mayor Bowser better get her act straight or she won’t be mayor very long because we take it over with the Federal Government running it like it’s supposed to be run."

The president’s comments follow his actions last week when he declared crime in Washington D.C. was "totally out of control" and initiated a broad crackdown on crime. As part of this effort, Trump deployed National Guard soldiers and federal agents to patrol the streets of the capital.
