The Kansas City Manufacturing Composite Index rose to 6 in October from 4 in September, according to data from the district Federal Reserve bank released Thursday.

Durable and non-durable manufacturing activity both increased slightly from last month, with the former driven by metal manufacturing and the latter reflecting printing and paper manufacturing.

New orders for exports and average work week were the only two M/M indexes coming in negative. But most Y/Y indexes were negative, except for the supplier delivery time and capital expenditures gauges.

Expectations for future activity accelerated, the KC Fed said [https://www.kansascityfed.org/surveys/manufacturing-survey/tenth-district-manufacturing-activity-rose-further-in-october/], with the composite measure doubling to 14 in October. Still, expectations for new orders and employment in the next six months stalled from the prior month.
