Amazon.com (AMZN, Financials) is back up and running after a brief disruption that left some U.S. users unable to shop or access services on Wednesday. According to Downdetector, reports of outages spiked to around 6,000 before dropping off sharply as systems recovered.

A few customers also ran into slowdowns on Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud platform. An AWS spokesperson said everything has since returned to normal.

The malfunction was short-lived compared with a major outage in October that affected websites globally. Users stated they could get back online in a few hours this time, and there were no big business or shipping delays.

As the holiday shopping season gets closer, Amazon is working hard to make sure that its big retail and cloud businesses work well for the people and businesses that rely on them every day.
