Ramaco Resources initiated Buy at Baird as potential winner in rare earth economy

Ramaco Resources (NASDAQ:METC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/METC]) +5.3% in Thursday's trading as Baird initiated coverage of the coal and rare earth minerals producer with an Outperform rating and $63 price target, believing the company is well-positioned to benefit as the U.S. builds out domestic production capacity for these materials.

Baird analyst Ben Kallo believes more critical minerals deals between developers and the U.S. government deals are imminent, and due to Ramaco's (NASDAQ:METC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/METC]) heavy rare earth element deposits and the chokehold that China has on this piece of the supply chain specifically, he thinks the company likely will receive some form of government support, ranging from assistance with fast tracking permitting to a more involved approach such as direct investment.

Kallo called Ramaco's (METC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/METC]) Brook Mine in Wyoming, with its significant concentration of rare earth elements "the next frontier for METC and potentially for the U.S. rare earth economy," also noting the mine is fully permitted at the state and federal levels for its initial production capacity of 1,200 tons of REEs and 2 million tons of coal, with management set to seek a permitting amendment for up to 3,400 tons of REEs and 5 millions tons of coal.
