EQT-led (NYSE:EQT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EQT]) Mountain Valley Pipeline said late Thursday it filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeking authorization to build [https://seekingalpha.com/pr/20278425-mountain-valley-pipeline-llc-files-formal-application-requesting-ferc-authorization-to] the "MVP Boost" project, which would add 600 million cf/day of available capacity to the interstate Appalachian natural gas line that began operations in June 2024.

Mountain Valley Pipeline said the upsized capacity is fully subscribed by investment-grade utilities in North Carolina and Virginia through binding, long-term contracts, highlighting strong, demand-driven growth for reliable natural gas supply.

The joint venture conducted an open season to gauge shipper interest in MVP Boost, which was initially anticipated to increase capacity on the MVP Mainline by 500,000 dth/day, leading to the request for additional capacity.

Pending regulatory approval, construction is targeted to start in the winter of 2026-27, with an in-service date targeted for mid-2028.

The Mountain Valley Pipeline JV is comprised of operator EQT Corp. (NYSE:EQT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EQT]), NextEra Energy (NEE [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NEE]), Consolidated Edison (ED [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ED]), AltaGas (OTCPK:ATGFF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ATGFF]) and RGC Resources (RGCO [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/RGCO]).
