* The Trump administration is reportedly in negotiations to buy a stake in Intel (NASDAQ:INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]) as part of a broader push to expand domestic chip manufacturing.

The administration is considering the move to help fund Intel's (NASDAQ:INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]) chipmaking operations in Ohio. How much money the government plans to invest in the company is unclear, Bloomberg reported [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-14/trump-administration-is-said-to-discuss-us-taking-stake-in-intel?sref=Hh2p8mzs], citing unnamed sources close to the deal.

* AI startup Cohere, which specializes in building AI models for businesses, has raised $500 million through a funding round that included existing investors Advanced Micro Devices (AMD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AMD]), Nvidia (NVDA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NVDA]) and Salesforce's (CRM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/CRM]) VC arm. The round valued Cohere at $6.8 billion.

"The new capital will enable us to accelerate our efforts to make businesses and governments around the world vastly more efficient, simplifying tedious tasks through agentic AI solutions," Cohere said in a statement [https://cohere.com/blog/august-2025-funding-round]. "Our approach enables us to offer AI solutions that provide local data control, better regulatory compliance, and digital sovereignty."

* AI pioneer and former Google (GOOG [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GOOG]) (GOOGL [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GOOGL]) researcher Geoffrey Hinton said he believes the only effective way to prevent AI from dominating and possibly destroying humans is to program them with "maternal" instincts.

“The right model is the only model we have of a more intelligent thing being controlled by a less intelligent thing, which is a mother being controlled by her baby,” Hinton said at the Ai4 conference in Las Vegas, according to CNN [https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/13/tech/ai-geoffrey-hinton].

“That’s the only good outcome. If it’s not going to parent me, it’s going to replace me,” he added.

The Nobel Prize winner has said he believes there's a 10% to 20% chance AI will eventually wipe out humanity, CNN noted.
