Italian court reduces €1.1B antitrust fine on Amazon: report

An Italian administrative court has reduced a €1.13B (about $1.32B) fine imposed on Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AMZN]) in 2021 by Italy's competition authority for alleged abuse of a dominant position, Reuters reported.

The Lazio administrative court upheld the main findings by the Italian antitrust regulator but said that the amount of the fine had to be recalculated, noting that the agency had not adequately explained the reasons for including a discretionary 50% increase, the report added [https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/italian-court-cuts-11-billion-euro-antitrust-fine-amazon-2025-09-02/].

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.

Reducing the 50% surcharge from the original €1.13B would result in a final penalty amount of about €750M, the report noted.

Amazon was originally fined for restricting competition in e-commerce logistics services in Italy. At the time, it was one of the largest fines imposed on a U.S. tech company in Europe, the report added.
