US company Oklo and Sweden's Blykalla have announced a strategic transatlantic partnership to enhance advanced nuclear technology and its commercialisation.
The collaboration focuses on tech sharing, supply chain coordination and regulatory knowledge exchange.
The partnership aims to accelerate the commercialisation of advanced nuclear reactors, a key component in the clean energy transition.
Under their joint technology development agreement, Oklo and Blykalla will share insights on materials, components and non-nuclear supply chain sourcing.
They will also exchange licensing best practices across the US and Sweden.
The cooperation is expected to reduce costs and mitigate schedule risks, facilitating the deployment of advanced nuclear technologies.
Oklo co-founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte stated: “This partnership strengthens the growing advanced reactor ecosystem in the face of unprecedented global demand for power.
“By teaming up on suppliers, materials data and licensing insights, we can shorten critical paths to deployment and stay focused on delivering reliable, clean power to customers, while recognising that we have more to gain from cooperating than from competing.
The agreement includes Oklo co-leading Blykalla's next investment round with a $5m commitment.
This financial step reinforces the transatlantic collaboration between the companies to fast-track advanced nuclear commercialisation.
Oklo may also supply select components for Blykalla's direct use, enhancing a vertically integrated, cross-border supply chain.
Blykalla CEO Jacob Stedman stated: “Oklo and Blykalla share a practical, industrial approach to bringing advanced fission to market.
“Coordinated component sourcing and targeted joint R&D [research and development] can unlock efficiencies for both companies and help our suppliers plan for scale, regardless of which side of the Atlantic they are on.”
Blykalla is working on a “passively safe, highly compact” 55MW lead-cooled fast reactor, known as SEALER, based on more than 25 years of research, while Oklo is developing a sodium-cooled fast reactor with capacities of up to 75MW, focusing on deployment at US sites for industrial, defence and data-centre customers.
