Following a report [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4506466-anthropic-and-google-said-to-be-negotiating-multibillion-dollar-cloud-services-agreement] earlier this week, Anthropic (ANTHRO [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ANTHRO]) confirmed on Thursday that it has widened the scope of its deal with Google (NASDAQ:GOOG [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GOOG]) (NASDAQ:GOOGL [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GOOGL]). The newly expanded deal will see Anthropic use more of Google's cloud computing services, including its tensor processing unit processors.

As part of the deal, Anthropic said it plans to use up to 1M TPUs and “dramatically” increase its compute resources. Anthropic said the expansion of the deal was worth “tens of billions of dollars” and is expected to bring well over a gigawatt of capacity online in 2026.

“Anthropic’s choice to significantly expand its usage of TPUs reflects the strong price-performance and efficiency its teams have seen with TPUs for several years,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO at Google Cloud, in a statement [https://www.anthropic.com/news/expanding-our-use-of-google-cloud-tpus-and-services]. “We are continuing to innovate and drive further efficiencies and increased capacity of our TPUs, building on our already mature AI accelerator portfolio, including our seventh generation TPU, Ironwood.”

Alphabet shares rose 1% in extended trading following the news.

Anthropic added that it now has more than 300,000 business customers, and the number of accounts that spend more than $100,000 in run-rate revenue, has grown nearly seven times in 2025.

Anthropic, which makes the Claude AI chatbot, added that it remains “committed” to working with its primary training partner and cloud provider Amazon (AMZN [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AMZN]). It will continue to work with the cloud and e-commerce company on Project Rainier, a massive compute cluster with hundreds of thousands of AI chips across multiple U.S. data centers.

Both Google and Amazon are investors in Anthropic.
