Everything Happening (That We Know Of)

Good morning. Wednesday gave us as busy a day as we've had in awhile, but it might not have necessarily turn out the way that traders wanted.

While delivering a quarter point interest rate cut, as widely expected, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said in remarks that an interest rate cut at the forthcoming December Fed meeting was not a certainty. In fact, it was, "far from a foregone conclusion."

The statement, along with a slew of others wrapped up in a fairly comprehensive Stock Market Today thread, really shook investors. On the revelation, equities fell rather dramatically. And then worsening matters, earnings after hours were wildly varied.

There was Alphabet, which knocked it out of the park with its first $100 billion revenue quarter. But then, there was Microsoft earnings, which came in line, but showed signs of slowdown in its Azure cloud business. Worst off, Meta took a nearly $16 billion one-time charge, hammering the stock.

As a result, you can appreciate how the megacaps' respective showings might have been cause for concern. Still, investors have demonstrated some patience, anticipating even more megacap earnings after the close. Equity futures are flat this morning.

A.M. Earnings: Eli Lilly, Mastercard, Shell

Thursday is fixing to be the busiest day of earnings so far, with 386 companies expected to report.

Here are this morning's biggest earnings reports:

Economic Data + Events

After a busy Wednesday, there isn't a lot on deck for today in economic data and events land. Fed Governors Michelle Bowman (Vice Chair of Supervision) and Lorie Logan (Dallas) will speak at 9:55 a.m. ET and 1:15 p.m. ET respectively.
