Schwab Trading Activity Index rises for fifth straight month in October

Charles Schwab (SCHW [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SCHW]) announced on Monday a fifth consecutive rise in its monthly trading activity index score.

The reading ranks "moderate low" compared to historic averages.

The Schwab Trading Activity Index, or STAX, increased to 48.12 in October from 46.12 in September. STAX analyzes retail investor stock positions and trading activity from Schwab's client accounts.

"Stocks are expensive right now, but the markets keep going up, so retail investors appear to be taking advantage of dip-buying opportunities where they can," said Joe Mazzola, head trading and derivatives strategist at the brokerage giant.

At the sector level, the top three net-buys in October were communication services, financials, and industrials.

The three that saw the most net-sells from Schwab clients were information technology, consumer discretionary, and health care.

Popular names bought by Schwab clients in October include NVIDIA (NVDA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NVDA]), Meta Platforms (META [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/META]), Microsoft (MSFT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MSFT]), Amazon.com (AMZN [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AMZN]), and Palantir Technologies (PLTR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/PLTR]). Names net sold include Advanced Micro Devices (AMD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AMD]), Apple (AAPL [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AAPL]), Tesla (TSLA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/TSLA]), Eli Lilly (LLY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/LLY]), and Intel (INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]).
