Financial personality Ramit Sethi recently shared one of the most common reasons people stay broke. While skills, investing, and ambition play a role, it ultimately comes down to how you view money. The way you view money will influence how motivated you are to change your situation and bolster your finances.
Sethi says that individuals who believe that people with money are evil automatically put themselves on an uphill battle.
"If you believe this, it will be very hard for you to become skilled with money," Sethi said in an X post.

Challenge Negative Money Scripts
When it comes to viewing people with money as evil, some people may misinterpret a popular Bible verse about money. The Bible says that "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil," but many people misinterpret that as money being the root of all evil.
It is not evil for people to earn money that they use to buy food and houses for their families. In this case, thinking of the good and basic ways everyone uses money can pour cold water on the idea that people with money are evil.
Taking the time to think about your relationship with money can help you address any weaknesses and build your strengths. Sethi is all about saving money, but he also advocates spending money on things that enhance your happiness once you have a good foundation.

Don't Be Jealous Of Rich People
Sethi's X post contains a comment from someone who went to parties that were hosted by rich people. As soon as this person's parents left the party, they "started talking about how corrupt, dirty, and sleazy those folks must be."
The couple could have declined the invitation if they were going to badmouth someone for being rich, but it reflects a deeper and common money script problem. If you are envious of successful people, it is more difficult to become successful. It invites a "poor me" mentality that prevents people from achieving the success that they see in others and want for themselves.
Asking rich people how they got rich and using them as positive examples is a better approach. People will be wealthier than you, and that is not a bad thing. It shows that there is more possible for you if you work harder and optimize how you work.

Evil Is Among The Rich And Poor
Wealth does not make someone good or evil. It simply magnifies the person you already are. Crimes are committed by the rich and the poor, and keeping this fact in mind can dispel the money myth that money is the root of all evil.
There are also many rich people who donate their money to worthy causes. Achieving wealth also isn't a zero-sum game. You don't need someone else to lose in order to get ahead. The more value you provide to the marketplace, the more the marketplace will reward you.
You will find good and bad people of various financial backgrounds. Aligning wealth with evil people may make you less prone to pursue a higher income, and it may be a poverty mindset disguised as having a moral compass.
