KBR (NYSE:KBR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/KBR]) +2.6% post-market Wednesday after saying it was awarded a $2.46B contract [https://seekingalpha.com/pr/20200233-kbr-awarded-an-estimated-2_459-billion-contract-to-support-astronaut-health-and-performance] from NASA to support astronaut health, occupational health, and research that could help mitigate health risks for future human spaceflight missions.
The five-year agreement starting November 1 includes two optional extensions that could extend the contract through 2035, which would raise the total estimated value of the base period plus optional periods to $3.6B, the company said.
KBR (NYSE:KBR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/KBR]) said it will provide services such as ensuring crew health, safety, and performance; providing occupational health services; and conducting research into mitigating risks to the health, safety, and performance of future spaceflight crews.
The majority of the work will be performed at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
"This contract reinforces KBR’s leadership in human spaceflight operations and highlights our expertise in supporting NASA’s vision for space exploration," said Mark Kavanaugh, KBR (KBR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/KBR]) President, Defense, Intel and Space.
