Wall Street's Arsenal
For Everyone
Trading.HK is an educational quantitative strategy research platform. Our team — former quant traders and analysts from top investment banks and hedge funds — focuses on translating institutional-grade backtesting methodology into educational publications that any learner can understand. We do not provide investment advice or personalized recommendations. Every report is a uniformly distributed educational publication designed to help readers learn how to use data and statistical methods to understand historical market performance.
All content on this platform is educational publications distributed uniformly to all subscribers. We do not provide investment advice, personalized recommendations, or buy/sell signals.

What is Quantitative Backtesting?
Quantitative backtesting is a method of using historical market data to test whether a trading strategy would have been effective in the past. In simple terms, it answers: "If I had bought/sold every time this condition occurred over the last 10 years, what would the result be?" Backtesting cannot predict the future, but it helps you objectively evaluate a strategy's historical performance using data — including how much it gained, how much it lost, and how bad the worst-case scenario was.
Suppose a strategy is "buy when RSI drops below 30, sell when RSI rises above 70." We run this strategy against 10 years of Hang Seng Index data, and we can determine: how many trades it triggered, what the win rate was, and how large the maximum loss was. That is backtesting.
What Backtesting is NOT
Backtesting is not prediction — historical performance does not represent future results
Backtesting is not a trading signal — we do not suggest you trade based on backtest results
Backtesting is not foolproof — overfitting can make results look great but be practically useless
How a Report is Made
From strategy selection to final report, every step follows a rigorous quantitative research process
Select Strategy
Choose a specific strategy from the classic technical analysis library, such as moving average crossover, RSI oversold bounce, or Bollinger Band breakout. Clearly define entry and exit conditions.
Set Parameters
Configure the backtest time range (typically 5-15 years), trading instruments (e.g., Hang Seng Index constituents), commission assumptions, slippage simulation, etc. All parameters are fully transparent in the report.
Run Backtest
Simulate trade execution day-by-day using real historical market data (OHLCV). Calculate P&L for each trade, holding periods, maximum drawdown, etc. Cover bull markets, bear markets, and sideways conditions.
Write Report
Compile backtest results into a structured educational report. Includes strategy explanation, complete statistics, equity curve charts, performance comparison across different periods, and plain-language interpretation of every metric.
What's Inside a Report
Every report includes the following core statistical metrics with detailed explanations — not just numbers, but teaching you what each number means
The percentage of profitable trades out of all trades. A high win rate doesn't necessarily mean a good strategy — you also need to consider the risk-reward ratio.
The maximum decline from peak to trough. This number tells you how much paper loss you might face in the worst-case scenario.
Measures excess return per unit of risk taken. Generally, above 1 indicates acceptable risk-adjusted returns; above 2 is considered excellent.
The compound annual growth rate during the backtest period. Note: this is historical backtest data and does not guarantee the same performance in the future.
The total number of trades triggered by the strategy during the backtest period. More trades generally mean more statistically reliable results.
The longest time from a loss to recovering the previous high point. This represents how long you might need to wait to "get back to where you were."
The above data is for illustrative purposes only, not from an actual report. Each report contains different actual data.
Our Story
Why We Built Trading.HK
In 2006, a group of quantitative trading experts from top investment banks and hedge funds founded Trading.HK in Hong Kong. They noticed that the quantitative analysis tools used by institutional investors — backtesting models, statistical indicators, risk assessment frameworks — were almost completely inaccessible to retail learners. Not because this knowledge is hard to learn, but because no one had ever taught it in an approachable way.
The founding team includes senior traders who managed billions of dollars at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, and PhD graduates in financial engineering from MIT and Stanford. Having witnessed countless retail participants make repeated mistakes due to a lack of quantitative analysis skills, they understood that "the asymmetry of analytical methodology" is the biggest gap in financial education.
"We can't tell you what to buy or sell — but we can teach you how to analyze the data yourself."
That is the core philosophy of Trading.HK. We don't make predictions. We don't make recommendations. What we do is: break down institutional-grade quantitative backtesting methodology into educational research reports that any serious learner can understand. Each report presents complete historical backtest data — win rates, drawdowns, Sharpe ratios, equity curves — so readers can learn to judge for themselves how a strategy performed historically, rather than relying on someone else's opinion.
Our Educational Philosophy
Three principles we uphold every day to ensure the educational value of every publication
Data Speaks, Zero Conflicts of Interest
We accept no sponsorship from listed companies, run no paid promotions, and hold no positions in the instruments we research. Every analysis result in our publications comes entirely from independent quantitative backtesting models. Data is data — it is never filtered or embellished for commercial benefit. The backtest results readers see, including the losing periods, are authentic historical data presentations.
Making the Complex Simple
Sharpe ratio, maximum drawdown, Monte Carlo simulation, mean reversion — these core quantitative finance concepts are all explained using real charts and case studies in our reports. Our goal isn't to impress readers with how smart we are, but to help readers develop their own analytical capabilities. Every report includes an "Indicator Explained" section that translates each number into plain language.
Showing the Full Truth, Including Losses
Many platforms only show a strategy's best-performing periods. We don't do that. Every backtest report includes the complete equity curve — including maximum drawdown periods, consecutive loss counts, and longest recovery times. Because the real educational value lies in helping learners understand: every strategy has periods of failure, and understanding risk is more important than chasing returns.
What the Platform Includes
All content is educational publications distributed uniformly to all subscribers, for learning and research purposes only
Quantitative Backtest Strategy Reports
Each report selects a specific trading strategy (e.g., moving average crossover, RSI oversold bounce, Bollinger Band breakout) and backtests it with real historical data. Reports include: strategy logic explanation, backtest parameter settings, win/loss rate statistics, maximum drawdown analysis, Sharpe ratio calculation, complete equity curve charts, and performance comparison across different market environments. Covering HK stocks, US equities, cryptocurrencies, and more.
Weekly Market Data Review
Published every Friday, the weekly market data review compiles key price movements, volume changes, volatility data, and technical indicator readings (RSI, MACD, Bollinger Band width) from the past week. Reports also annotate the statistical performance of historically similar technical patterns, for educational research purposes only.
Quantitative Analysis Learning Column
Systematic educational content from beginner to advanced: candlestick pattern recognition, technical indicator principles (moving averages, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands), backtesting methodology fundamentals, Sharpe ratio and max drawdown calculations, and the statistical foundations of position sizing.
Five Languages Supported
Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean — full five-language support so learners across the Asia-Pacific region can read without barriers.
PDF Downloads & Data Security
All reports are available in PDF format for offline reading and archiving. The platform uses SSL encryption to protect user data security.
"I used to have no idea what those numbers in technical analysis reports meant. Trading.HK reports explain every indicator's meaning, and I genuinely learned how to read backtest data. Now I look forward to every new weekly report."
